Africa Safari
Packing List
A comprehensive packing guide for your African safari - separated by season and tailored for him and her. Pack smart, travel light, and arrive ready.
Dry Season - June to October. Hot days, cold mornings, minimal rain, excellent game viewing. Dust is your main challenge.
Essential Safari Tips for Everyone
Before diving into the detailed lists, here are the universal rules every safari traveler should know - regardless of season or gender.
Bag Size Matters
Most bush flights have strict luggage limits of 15kg (33 lbs) in a soft-sided bag. Avoid hard-shell suitcases for safari legs.
Color Code: Neutral Only
Avoid white, black, and bright colors. Neutral tones (khaki, olive, stone, tan) blend with the environment and do not attract insects.
Layers Are Everything
Temperatures can swing 20-30 degrees between a 5am game drive and a midday lunch. Pack layers you can add and remove easily.
Leave Room to Shop
Many lodges and airports sell beautiful local crafts and souvenirs. Leave 20% of your bag space for the return journey.
Medication & Documents
Carry all medications in your hand luggage. Keep copies of your passport, insurance, and itinerary in a separate bag and emailed to yourself.
Power Adapters
East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania) uses Type G plugs. Southern Africa (Botswana, Zambia) uses Type D/M. Bring a universal adapter.
